RANT: Don’t buy any of Equifax’s services March 22, 2006
I know its hard to say don’t use Equifax for anything related to credit because they are pretty much the largest credit information bureau that most people use. But they mislead you and their customer service is unwilling to budge.
Here’s my situation. I was originally with Experian using them to monitor my credit. It was an ok expense of $30 a month that showed my Experian credit report and my current fico score. I wish I realized what a good company Experian was before I decided to test out Equifax’s services.
I decided to try Equifax’s service of their 3-1 credit watch for $10. This sucks. There is no FICO score or anything which is what I want to know since that is what really matters in regards to credit and aquiring lending. Their interface is pretty horrible as well and less than intuitive in figuring out where you need to go to view your report. To be objective though, they had a decent service of notifications when there was activity on my credit report. This was a nice feature, but not really the feature I wanted.
So I called Equifax up to cancel this service so I could go back to Experian - whom I was pretty happy with to begin with. Equifax stated that the service required a three month commitment and they would bill me again…even after I wanted it cancelled. What a crock!! Equifax has it supposedly written in their terms of service that it is ok for them to steal money from you. I explained to the woman that I was not aware of this and the person who sold me on switching to equifax did not state this. She told me that it was in the term of service. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND EVER READS THOSE? I think companies make these “terms of service” so legally complicated and long, that people jsut cringe at the thought of read them. So we mindlessly pass over the terms. And companies are counting on this very fact of human nature so they can put all sort of “gotcha” phrases in their agreements.
So I plan on calling my bank and telling them to refuse all requests for payment from Equifax. I know this is a risk since Equifax IS the credit bureau and could just screw my score just to spite me. But fuck them. They are fucking all sort of people by hiding this crap in the terms of service. And when I want a service discontinued, it should be discontinued.
Experian is definately the company I should have stayed with. I reccommend their services to anyone. They are true to their word and their customer service is incredibly better than Equifax.

CHRIS IS RIGHT, I am currently an Equifax user (re: moron) and I spent about 30 minutes looking on their site for ways to cancel their service. I didn’t know it was a monthly service , I thought it was a one shot deal… till I noticed 3 months of this crap billed on my credit card.
Not only that but the most important aspect of the report is the FICO score which equifax DOES NOT SHOW makes Equifax the biggest rip off in town.
I sent an email to them stating my desire to cancel but more than likley that will go unresponded so I will have to call them tomorrow. To make matters worse, I found this webposting by googling ” how to cancel equifax ” and this link came up on the first page… great vote of confidence this gives me.
I felt the same way, of disputing any further charges by these muther fuckers but I feel that it is too great of a risk, and that in the future it is probably best to google anything before purchasing so you can read the reviews.. this post alone would have saved me the headache but happened to come upon this after the fact i got raped.
thanks for spreading the word, i can only agree 110% of what the poster stated!
