About

This is all about me…Chris Esler. I’ll write more when I get a chance. But to keep it brief, and to have something here at least I’ll state a few sentences.

I live in the greater Seattle area. I’m originally from Mississippi. I am a graphic designer and web designer. My day job involves user interface design and coding in javascript / AJAX, css, and (hopefully) compliant xhtml. On the side I like to design book covers, illustration and other print projects.

Book design is my main freelance activity. Been doing it for almost 10 years now. I think I’ve probably designed around 300 books. Thats nothing compared to the great Chip Kidd who’s designed about 1500 books over the course of 10 (or is it 20?) years. I’d like to be on par with him doing book covers for great authors. One day.

I occasionally do some freelance web and interface work. I’m actually doing alot more web design now, but for the most part the book design thing is where my freelance is huge. I’m doing on average about 50-60 book designs a year.

Kind of a strange mixture of work I know. But I have a love of technology. Mostly PHP and CSS with some database stuff thrown in the mix. I’m dealing a lot with JavaScript with all this AJAX buzz going around. I can’t believe the stuff that can be done with JavaScript now. It makes learning it rather fun and a challenge. And my love for art and design has helped me push on with my book design. Makes me a well rounded graphic designer / web designer. How many designers do you know that can program in multiple languages, databases and can still drawn pictures pretty good? Not many.

But I do. :)

At any rate, thats the brief story about me. I’ll get more in here later about my life in the design world.
